Casino Royale.

I guess the gaming ship, Casino Royale, is getting closer to opening. There are help wanted ads running in the local papers and their website has expanded the list of jobs available. Best of all for poker players is the news that they are hiring poker dealers. According to the ship's website the name of the Casino Royale poker room will be 52. Whatever it is called it sure will be nice to play something other than two dollar poker.

Beyond two dollar poker.

We are still waiting for real poker in the Tampa Bay area. There is the Sun Cruz out of Treasure Island but even though it is the only no-limit game in the area it really doesn’t count. The games offered change from cruise to cruise and if your schedule doesn’t match theirs you’re SOL. I guess the closest we had to a full Las Vegas style casino room was aboard the ill-fated Ocean Jewel (remains of the website) that offered 1-2 NL, 2-5 NL and the occasional 10-20 NL game. There hasn’t been a regular no-limit game or any limit games above $2 since the OJ filed for bankruptcy in October of 2005.

There is the promise of a poker room on the Casino Royale ship but the most recent article states the ship is in the Bahamas undergoing general maintenance and interior upgrades. The best guess looks like the ship might be operational late this spring. We'll see if this latest casino ship pipe dream can shake off its problems and make a go of it here.

Just flop it.

Starting here. Starting now. Just to get it going.
